Nintendo has pushed a free content update to Fire Emblem Shadows, its mobile strategy game, according to a post on Nintendo of America’s What’s New page. The update starts a fourth story arc and adds a set of limited-time extras themed around Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, the series’ new release on Nintendo Switch 2.

What the update adds

• Book IV – An Island Apart: the story returns to Kurt and the cast from Book I. In the new arc, the group flees to Holtz, the island homeland of the character Rose, and hides there while imperial forces chase them. Only the first two chapters are in this update, and each is playable from both the light and shadow perspectives.
• How to unlock it: the chapters open as players gather Story Fragments, which drop as rewards from battles. Nintendo notes that switching to a newer Book through the Change Stories option on the home menu requires first claiming every story reward in Book I.
• Fortune’s Weave login bonus: signing in on three different days earns 12 Souls, which can be spent to recruit the unit Leda: String Siren.
• Season Pass unit: Dietrich appears in the Season Pass, and Nintendo says he can be recruited via the Premium Pass until October 27 at 10:59 p.m. PT.

About the game

Fire Emblem Shadows blends real-time tactical battles with a social deduction layer in which some players work for the light side while a hidden traitor operates for the shadows. It is free to start on smartphones, with optional in-game purchases, and Nintendo says it needs a constant internet connection. More details are on the official Fire Emblem Shadows site.

What we don’t know yet

The headline of Nintendo’s post mentions “Flame Lords,” but the text itself does not say what they are; the accompanying trailer gives an overview of the update. Nintendo has not said when the remaining chapters of Book IV will be added.
