Modern Warfare 4 skips Game Pass at launch, arrives there Holiday 2027

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will not be part of Game Pass when it comes out on October 23. In an October 15 post on the official Call of Duty Blog, Activision’s COD Intel Team calls it a standalone release: anyone who wants to play at launch has to buy the game on its own.

When it reaches Game Pass

According to the post, Modern Warfare 4 is set to be added to Game Pass in Holiday 2027. Until then, Game Pass Ultimate members still get the older entries already offered there: Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare III.

Pre-order details for Xbox players

Pre-orders on Xbox are open in three places: the Microsoft Store, the console storefront and the Xbox app for Windows. Activision lists these bonuses for digital pre-orders:

• Campaign Early Access, starting October 16
• DMZ Early Access, starting October 20
• the Hunter Killer Operator Skin and the Gilded Pearl Camo Pack
• the Inner Circuit M4 Weapon Blueprint, for any digital edition; on Xbox consoles it gets a translucent OG Green look marking 25 years of Xbox

The post notes that early access start dates may change and that actual play time depends on outages and time zones.

Platforms

Modern Warfare 4 is developed by Infinity Ward. When Activision announced the game on May 28, it listed PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 for the October 23 launch, with no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version.
